We’ve been planning to dine here ever since they opened in Macapagal Avenue, and last Friday, we finally did. Our concern before was the parking since we thought they were like the Gerry’s Grill where we usually eat, which don’t have enough parking space. We were glad to know that there was a parking area at the back. It was quite dark, but the lights from the nearby hotel construction helped a lot, and there was also a roving security guard so the diners of the nearby restaurants will still feel secure to leave their vehicles.
Of course, who doesn’t love Shrimp Tempura? Especially those cooked to perfection, with prawns that are fresh and juicy, with just enough tempura batter and dipped in a special tempura sauce. Now, I just don’t know what makes a tempura sauce special? I didn’t ask the staff. Maybe there’s a special herb mixed into their sauce. Though quite honestly, I didn’t taste anything different from it.
We ordered their Asakusa Special Tempura Seishoku. It’s a Japanese set meal classic. Served with Japanese rice, potato salad, miso soup, tempura sauce, radish, ginger, pickles and 3 black tiger prawns. It was reasonably priced at Php365.00, good enough for two.
We also had their Ebi Tempura Maki. Ebi Tempura rolled in tobiko and topped with agedama, shichimi and spicy japanese mayonnaise. After avoiding rice for weeks, it was definitely cheat day for me. A rice overload, no less! The maki was good, but not the spicy mayonnaise — though it was just me – because I just don’t like anything with a hint of spicy-ness, haha!
We didn’t order much, and we didn’t explore much of their menu. Maybe next time when we bring the kids with us, we’ll have more of what they offer.
And it wasn’t really me if you hear me turning down an offer for ice cream, because I really wouldn’t be able to resist an ice cream for dessert. Diet falls out of the window when it’s ice cream we’re talking about (though it’s worth a mention that I didn’t eat a single scoop of ice cream when we had it in the office last Thursday — that was a major accomplishment!)
And who can resist this cute presentation? That fish-shaped Japanese cake with dulce de leche filling was so irresistible.
Then of course, we just had to have take-outs for the kids, these adorably-cute bear-shaped cakes with assorted fillings. I think the girl assisting us heard me when I said that I wanted to bring home these cute little bears, because just when we were about to get the bill, she asked us if we want to get one box of these.
One thing I can say about them is, their staff were good. They were very attentive, with ready smiles on their faces, and were sensitive to their customers’ needs. We also loved all the food that we ordered. We will try the others in their menu when we go back with our kids. The place was quite hot in the front area, maybe that’s why when we entered from the back, most of the diners were seated there, and there was even a couple who couldn’t find a comfortable seat that was cool enough for them and just decided to leave. And maybe because of the constructions around the area, we were constantly bothered by mosquitoes while we were eating. But other than these, our dining experience was fine, and we will definitely visit them again.
